The Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) is an official online English level test developed by Oxford University. It is widely used in academic contexts to assess a learner’s CEFR level (A1–C2) for initial English level screening and course placement, particularly when applying to universities or preparatory programmes.

The test is divided into two sections, both of which are required. The sections are called “Use of English” and “Listening.”
Part 1. Use of English. About 30 questions. Choose American or British English. Or a mix.
This part of the test evaluates your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, for example, how well you know tenses, or which word would be correct in a sentence. It also assesses how well you understand what you have read and the meaning of the text. You have to read and answer multiple choice and gap fill questions.
Part 2. Listening. About 15 Questions.
This section uses audio to test your understanding of what you hear. You can choose 100% American English, all British English, or a 50/50 mix. Test takers can play the audio twice if they like.
Questions are instantly marked and appear for the school (That's us.) We see your CEFR level, point score out of 120, and your time taken to complete the test. The scores are separated between the 2 sections.
We download an official OOPT results card PDF and email it to you. That is the official record of your test.
