The English Center of Amstelveen was founded in 2009 by American teacher Brenda de Jong-Pauley, MA. The Center’s Amstelveen location is just a 3-minute walk from the Poortwachter tram and bus stop and the Middenhoven Park. We are just east of Westwijk, and quite close to the International School of Amsterdam (ISA) on the Sportslaan.
All of our courses are taught by native-speaker English trainers from our Amsterdam-based team. With a team of 25 trainers from the US, UK, Australia, South Africa and other countries, we are big enough to handle all kinds of training requests. Intensive English courses provide one, two or three weeks of private training for a fast improvement. Amstelveen is the business home of Royal Dutch KLM Airlines and KPMG, one of the “big four” accounting firms. The Cobra Museum and International School of Amsterdam are also located in Amstelveen. In addition, several Japanese companies have international offices in Amstelveen, including Nikon Europe and Canon Europe. Finally, Amstelveen is home to many English-speaking expats from many countries, including Japan, India, China, Korea, Ukraine, the US and Great Britain. It’s an especially welcoming place to live if Dutch is not your first language.
The suburb of Amstelveen is home to over 80,000 residents. The municipality includes Bovenkerk and Nes aan de Amstel. In addition to our old village and downtown with a large shopping center, (the stadshart), Amstelveen also includes many neighborhoods such as Westwijk, Waardhuizen and Middenhoven (which are very close to our classrooms), plus Bankras-Kostverloren, Groenelaan, Randwijk, Elsrijk and Keizer Karelpark.
